How Important is Wellbeing?

How important is wellbeing to you?

No… seriously.

Because it’s easy to say “my wellbeing is important” when life is going well.

What about when the bills are stacking up?

When work is taking more out of you than it gives back?

When you’re looking after everyone else and realise you haven’t thought about yourself for weeks?

When family relationships are complicated.

When your mental health is taking a knock.

When you’re surrounded by people but still feel alone.

When the life you imagined and the life you’re actually living don’t quite match.

That’s real life.

And yet wellbeing has become such a buzzword that it can feel like another box to tick.

Another workshop. Another checklist. Another person telling you what you need to do to improve your wellbeing.

I see it differently.

I’m not here to tell you what your wellbeing should look like.

You know your life.

You know your circumstances.

You know what you’re carrying.

My role is to create the kind of environment where you can explore some of that, connect with other people and perhaps see things from a different perspective.

What you take from that is yours.

That’s part of what Coffee & Connect is about.

It’s a monthly evening café with a relaxed atmosphere where you can come together without the pressure of having to network, perform or pretend everything is fine.

Have a conversation.

Meet someone new.

Talk about something that matters.

Laugh.

Think.

Or simply have a good evening.

Because sometimes life gets so busy that genuine connection gets pushed further and further down the list.

And then there’s the other part of Coffee & Connect that matters to me.

Giving back.

There are people in our communities who need support, and grassroots charities are often doing incredible work with very limited resources.

That’s why organisations like LoveBrum matter.

Their recent prison fundraiser was fun, inspiring and raised more than £5,000 for good causes. But the smaller amounts matter too.

A few pounds can help provide resources that keep young people engaged.

It can help someone have a warm meal.

It can help a volunteer spend time with someone who is isolated.

It can help someone feel that somebody actually cares.

Sometimes the difference isn't a big intervention. It's one person showing up for another person.

When charities are competing with much larger organisations for funding, every penny really does count.

Our target is £1,000 to support local community causes.

So yes, Coffee & Connect is about wellbeing.

But wellbeing comes in many shapes and forms.

Connection. Conversation. Community. Giving back. Having somewhere to breathe for a moment.
